Default Chrysler 8.25 to DANA 35 rear axle swap

Can I swap a Dana 35 for a Chrysler 8.25 in a 1993 Jeep Cherokee w/o any problems/modifications? And It does not have Anti-Lock Brakes. And the Jeep is a Manual, if that helps. We busted the shock mount off of the 8 today 4 wheeling. OOPS!

Yes you can, but if i read this right, you want to downgrade from a 8.25 to a D35? Why not just fix the shock mounts? It would be easier and better on the wallet.

Well we found a good 35 for $150 with lower gears and rear disc brakes instead of drums. Better for offroad. And we like the design better.

If you have 4WD then the front differential must match at the gearing level. You can't have a 4:10 rear and a 3:55 front.

yup plus the turdy five sucks at everything. even with upgrades and disc and lower gears it is not worth putting in place of a 8.25 stick to the 8.25 and fix the shock mount

oh and that 150 can get you a set of disc for the rear. just go junk yard hunting and get the stuff off the zj with the disc in the late 90's. should only cost around 100 to 150

Swapping the 8.25 for a D35 would be like putting a 4 cylinder in a Corvette. Buy new shock mounts, have them welded on and keep wheeling it.

Keep the 8 and fix the mount. You'll thank us later when you see a fellow xj's busted dana 35 axle shaft coming out as he goes up a hill.

If you don't want to fix it, swap it out for a 97-01 chrysler 8.25 axle. They are stronger than your current 8.25.

You could still grab the 35 and swap the disc brakes to the 8.25...
