Cherokee won't turn left!

1993 Jeep Cherokee 2WD V6.
Search turned up nothing, so here goes! It is a friend's vehicle, it turns right fine, but willl not turn left past stationary position. The upper power steering line that connects to the reservoir is damaged enough to leak a good amount of fluid but before I pull the entire thing apart does this sound like the tip of a bigger problem? Any advice on where I should look for steering related solutions such as joints etc? The hose I can probably remove and replace fairly easily, but any info before I tear it open is much appreciated. Please forgive my total lack of insight, I am used to working on Euro cars:) Thanks in advance everyone!!

Hi, first off your friend doesn't have a v6, it's an inline 6. Is the steering linkage all in one piece? Drag link, trac bar, tie rod... Does the steering wheel turn left? If not steering box would be suspect. Even without power steering you can still turn the wheel, it just takes a little effort.

Thanks for a quick reply. You're right, I6 motor. It turns left great like I said but won't turn right at all. Watching the steering wheel assembly under the hood it won't continue to rotate when the wheel is turned left. Turning is smooth until you try to go left and then there's an audible rubbing sound

I would put it up on jackstands and try to see what is preventing it from turning. If you still can't see, start disconnecting things in the steering linkage until you figure it out.

I was hoping I wouldn't need to lift it up as the turning problem is keeping me from putting it in the drive way so its on the street.

Dude.....No^^

Look under as someone turns the wheel and see if there is binding..
If not id start looking into the steering box.

Pitmann arm might be wayyyyyy of center? Haha

if it is absolutly impossible to turn it the one direction, not just hard, but impossible to turn, it is most likely the steering box. I had this happen on a few chevy pickups.

So back it in, where there is a will, there is a way.......
So ya it probably is the box, the rotating balls only rotate one way now.

Sorry haha clarification: it turns RIGHT fine but absolutely will not go LEFT. I can get it into my drive way by reversing into a neighbors and pulling straight in but their car is right behind me and they aren't home rendering such a feat possible right now:/ guess it waits till morning. Thanks for input guys its sounding a lot like steering gear box
