You can also use a 3M stipe off wheel. They come with instructions on max rpms to be used at. They work good, just keep the rms down so you don't burn your paint. Dean |
Where do you get that at?
|
The 3M part number is 7498. You can check your local auto parts store but they aren't cheap. I found my best price online.

I used the 3M eraser disc to get rid of a dealer sticker on the back. Works like a champ!

THe XJ I just picked up had trim off already..but the glue/adhesive was still there. I got 95% of it off just by rolling it off with my fingers...now I just have a few small spots that I plan on hitting with bug and tar remover.

GOO GONE! **** works like Black Magic
|
bug and tar remover and goo gone are great too once you get it down to just the last layer of film. I've also CAREFULLY used a plastic putty knife on my old Suburban with laquer thinner. That disco chrome along the bottom of the rockers had to go!

Anybody know any links on how to paint the flares and bumpers in bed liner the right way?
|
What is "the right way" in your mind?
Take them off, prep them like a normal surface, and paint them. If plastic is bare you'll want to use something like Krylon Fusion for at least a priming coat. Are you asking how to take off the bumper caps and flares? Or how to paint things? |
There's a few videos on YouTube and they just tape stuff off. I was goin to take it off but I'm not sure how to take off all the flares and bumpers
|
I've seen flares removed and bolts break, strip etc. my advice would be to mask it off. Take your time and it will pay off.

Alright, could the bolts be replaced if broken or are they mad to where I couldn't. That was my main worry. And I'll mask them if it comes down to it
|
Yes. The parts that break are the studs in the fender flare brackets. They'll shear off even if you live in the south, they're not SAE Grade Anything.
What myself and a bunch of other folks do is drill 'em out and put some new bolts in. Those with welders tack them in place but I just put a nut on. Works great! Takes some patience but that's all. |
