Cherokee No Start...ANOTHER ONE
I have an 88 Cherokee that has developed an intermediate starting problem. The problem occurs randomly about once a week. The jeep will crank and crank but not even stutter. I have to crank it on and off 5 or 6 times before it will start right up. It only happens when cold.
This problem really has me stumped. I dont believe its the fuel pump, I can cycle the key back and forth to prime it and still no start. I can also hear it come on.The pressure also appears to be fine on the fuel rail. I don't believe its the NSS because it cranks and I don't have to shift it at all to get it to start. I also recently cleaned the throttle body and IAC. That seemed to help with my low idle and it now hovers around 800 rpm but didn't fix the random hard start. I adjusted the TPS and still no luck.
I am wondering if it is either:
A bad IAC that gets stuck sometimes ( but I have no issues idling after getting it started so idk)
A bad TPS
A bad CPS
A bad MAP sensor?
Could a bad battery cause it to crank and not start? The starter sounds very strong.
What confuses me the most is that it is fine after it starts. (Other than constantly over heating above 45 mph... but that's a problem for another day)
Any help is appreciated. I am beginning to get very frustrated with this Jeep.

I checked it weeks ago so I don't remember the exact pressure. I just remember it was within spec of what the shop manual specified. I can check the pressure again but like I said it always runs fine and when I cycle the key to pressurize it, it doesn't help.

Tested the CPS, it had a very low voltage. Changed it out for a new one. Also cleaned the grounds and eliminated the C101 connector. I'll get around to the rest of the tips this week. I'll post back if it fixed the problem or not.
thanks
