Cherokee made a weird noise before starting.
 

So I got my new starter swapped in today and my XJ works great. :thumbsup:.

So I took her on a joy ride after I finally got to drive it after waiting two weeks so I went and got gas. I stopped at the gas station, filled up, then tried to crank it but it made a SCREECHING noise. I left off the key, and then tried again and it fired right up! Anybody have any idea what this could be?

Don't laugh, but they make that noise if you try to start one that's already running. Starter teeth not meshing with ring-gear on flywheel. :cheers:

Haha, well, it wasn't running buddy. I turned the ignition off and then pumped gas. Trust me. :)

Mine did that once, held the key a bit too long. Probably just a chance occurrence that you hopefully won't see again.

No I meant the squealing noise could be the starter teeth not engaging with the ring gear teeth on the flywheel. JMO
