cherokee/grand cherokee trans swap

cherokee/grand cherokee trans swap
will a late 80's early 90's grand Cherokee auto trans behind a 6 cyl swap into a Cherokee of the same year there about with a 6 cyl and auto trans??

The Grand Cherokee ZJ wasn't made until 1993, IIRC.
From what I have heard, the Grand Cherokee automatic transmission is crap compared to the XJ Cherokee.

The 93 zj is the only year that used the same trans as the xj and i'm not sure if it will bolt in a xj or not.The rest of the zj years used a different trans that is not worth the time to swap one they are known for going out.

I think a bolt on the flex plate backed out and wore a hole in the front housing and he lost fluid all at once but drove another mile or two. I have not gone to check it out yet and will have to bring it over to my place to do that, trailer time.
