Cherokee engine swap question
I have a 2000 four door Cherokee Sport that needs a new engine and radiator. I have found a used engine (4.0) from a 90 Cherokee with 77,000 miles on it still in the Jeep so I can hear it run. I also found a used radiator from an 89 Cherokee. Is this a clean swap ? I know nothing about Jeeps besides the basics.
Thank you
Thank you

Thanks Bluexj for the advice. I just got this email today. Is what I should be looking for?
"Hello, I have a 99 Cherokee Sport 4x4. It was rolled in winter and landed on a rock, on its roof. I have chopped the roof off to be able to drive it. It goes 50mph down my back road straight as an arrow. The engine and drive train are still mint, only minor body damage besides the roof. It has 110,000 mi 4.0L HO, auto trans, dark green. Great fully functioning donor truck! Take what you need, sell the rest. $500 firm."

That sounds like what you need. You'll have a running engine, good harness, and anything else that may come up during and after the install. You could pull several spare parts to keep as replacements (water pump, radiator, thermostat, brake booster, etc. etc. etc.) and haul the body to the scrap yard to get some $$ back out of it.

210 bucks for cam lifters oil pump, pickup and all the gaskets (mopar part)

Buy the donor for that price and changeout the engine and strip off everything you can then sell the body for scrap. You'll probably make half that $500 back on the scrap sale and end up with many spares. Go for it before the rolled Jeep gets away.

Engine mixing water with the oil..... why not get head checked or get a new head and put your motor back together?
Not all 99's are coil-pack motors so I'd check that out before buying the parts unit.

I took it to a jeep dealership and they said it was maybe a cracked head gasket that lead to the coolant mixing with the oil but they were not sure. It had a bad idle and was stalling when i took it in and they said my engine was filled with , "gunk." This being a mixture of antifreeze, water and oil.

I also had the VIN numbers of both checked and the engines were the same. So it seems like I got real lucky with this. Originally they said it would be 4,000 to get fixed. Looks like I can get it done for close to a quarter of that.
Well see thanks for all the help I will keep you guys updated.

Hang around him as much as time allows you so you will gain some knowledge about your Jeep. You may need to fix something on the trail one day and the more you know the better off you will be. JMHO.
