Check guages and voltage gauge
Had to jump start my Jeep this morning, she had been sitting for a couple weeks as I was out of town. Starts right up, I am driving down the road and the voltage gauge pegs to the right and the "check gauges" light illuminates. Turn around and drive back home, as I am pulling into the neighborhood, the check gauges light goes off and volts return to normal. Its a 2001 Cherokee sport with the I-6, any ideas what it could be?

Check battery and ground connections for corrosion and to make sure everything is tight. The cold can do funny things to batteries. Wouldn't hurt to go through testing procedures with a multimeter or taking somewhere to get everything tested.

Yea was planning on getting the battery tested, seemed weird that the volt gauge and light would go off while driving if the battery is bad. I hate electrical gremlins with a passion!

You said it gets pegged to the right? So it says youre at 19+ AMPS? When you shut off the Jeep, put your hand on the battery and feel if its warm, if it is you're over charging the battery and your alt needs service.

Yea was at 19+ amps for a short duration. Thanks for the suggestion on checking the battery, will have to try that.

No wrenching this weekend unfortunately, 8'' of snow on the ground and the other cars taking priority in the garage, oh for warmer days!
