For me, that was the indicator of what would become a full on alternator fiasco.

Are there photos of where the grounds are located? I'd like to clean them.

Same here (well except for the fiasco part). Once I figured out what was causing the craziness in the instruments replacing the alternator was straightforward enough and that fixed it all.

Maybe I should replace the alternator just to be safe.
It's pretty straightforward to do this at home?

I have a 2000 Cherokee and the check gauge light comes on but all gauges are good.Did notice on mine it comes on when oil pressure goes to 19 psi idling and anything above 20 psi it goes off...Look at your oil pressure gauge and see if the light comes on at a certain pressure as mine does.

Pressure is good all other gauges I see no movement when this occurs so believe its in the oil pressure electrical system but sensor is good going to replace connector and see what happens.

The alternator is mounted low on the engine so it's a little of a PITA to get to, but really not too bad a job overall. The mounting bolts will probably be pretty tough to get out. I found it helpful to also loosen the middle bolt on the lower bracket so it doesn't clamp down on the alternator, made it much easier to pull out.

I took mine out from the bottom. It's a tight squeeze but there's just enough room to do it. Some say they prefer to move the AC compressor out of the way and remove the alternator from the top.

Lol, I wish mine had been so simple. This occurred a week after being forced into a ditch at hwy speed, the impact pinched something in the main harness.

OP ~ There's no sense in replacing the alt until you know for sure it's the problem. Take it to a parts store(preferably not autozone) and have them do a running output test on it first.
