Most people would hope never to see their check engine light, but mine doesn't come on at all, not even for a few seconds when the key is first turned. I guess either the bulb has gone, or a previous owner may have removed it. Either way, is it a big job to repair/replace?
Thanks
Thanks
Its real easy, straight forward job. The only thing that slows you down is slipping the headlight switch **** thru its hole. I do believe tho that the clusters CEL bulb is soldered on unlike the gauge bulbs which are twist lock, i cant remember for sure tho.

Ok thanks for the reply. Perhaps it would not be so easy to remove then. I will try and figure out how to take the dash cluster off and check it out. Think id better check for codes too!
Check this vid out if you dont have a code reader:
Also, its not hard at all if you have basic knowledge and capabilities.
Start by removing the knee bolster and setting the screws down on the floor
Theres a rubber shroud that slides into itself, separate the two side
Then remove the radio bezel and set it on the back seat.
Unscrew the screws you just exposed. I usually throw them in the cup holder since the rest of the screws you pull will be the same.
Pull panel towards you slowly.
You will need to maneuver the rubber shroud i mentioned before around the steering column.
You will also need to align the headlight **** with the hole and press it out with your fingers, dont just yank.
At that point all that stands between you and the cluster is that top panel and some screws.
In my experiences with XJs this panel comes out pretty easy, just pull up and towards you.
Unscrew the screws holding the cluster in place and pull and wiggle it out. The plugs are stationary and just slide out when you pull on the cluster.
