changing Cherokee front wheel bearings
I have a '97 Cherokee sport with 4WD and want to change the front wheel bearings, or at least repack the old ones.
Does anyone know a good video or step by step process for doing so?
The only one I saw on u tube was lousy. The guy wasn't even talking.
thanks as always

Good video. It's on removing the axel specifically but you have to remove the hub/bearing to remove the axel so it shows the process well. GL!

There is no repacking the old bearings. They're a sealed unit bearing.
Remove wheel, brake caliper, rotor, spindle nut, 3 bolts through the knuckle into the hub (12pt 13mm box end wrench), remove bearing.
Replace.
30 minute job per side.

Its true that they are designed to be replaced as a unit. If they are not severely damaged (flopping around) you can regrease them to get rid of noise. The OEM hub units have a large rubber orange seal on the back that can be pulled off with a pick, then clean the bearings really well (brake cleaner, mineral spirits, etc), and jam it full of grease and reseat the seal. Some of the aftermarket hubs have metal seals that are harder to work with but its still possible. They can also be separated with a puller and reassembled with a press, if you have the shop tools for it, but at that point you really should just replace the units.

I was wondering if they were sealed or not. When I popped off the cheesie 'hub cap' I was shocked to see no dust cover, just a rusty big nut and cotter pin!
I am hearing a kinda brrrrrrrrrr (like rolling the tongue type R's) on the drivers side front when coming to a stop.
