Center Console Lid Replacement?

Hey guys, I don't know if this is common in 97+ cherokees, but I've seen two where this is true. The latch on my center console lid is broken, so the lid slides and flops around. I tighten the screws down every once in a while, but there is just too much leverage for those little screws to keep it still. Does anyone have a fix for this? Maybe a different lid with better latch mechanism? If not, I might be looking in to a luggage lock.

Thanks

Cheap hillbilly way: ducttape. Cheap way: some type of latch for gates or doors (maybe the one that looks like an f ). Oem way : get the latch preferably at jy to avoid stealership prices (maybe even craigslist or ebay). Or you can go the expensive ways and get a aftermarket one or build a whole new one and fiberglass it

My '94 does the same thing. I was going to get a heavy duty outdoor gate hinge from Home Depot but have just been putting it off.

Hmmm, anyone ever used velcro? Or maybe that form of velcro that an ipass (or equivalent toll booth rfid transmitter for your state) would work. Most of the interior seems at least somewhat well thought-out on these vehicles, I can't imagine what they were thinking when they designed this latch mechanism (I have seen a whole one before that functioned... somewhat).

3m makes a great velcro that would work

I'm thinking about taking a chunk of good wood and make a lid for it... with cupholders!

Do you still have the piece? I glued mine back on with gorrila glue and let it set for 2-3 days and it hasnt broke yet, goin 5 months strong :D

Maybe I have a different problem.... My hinge broke off of the lid. I tried to gorilla glue it and throw in some oversized screws but it broke off again.

did you use gorrilla glue or the gorrilla glue super glue? took a time or two to get it right but once it was on it stayed there. I really like the velcro idea tho if all else fails, thats what i held some of my carpet down with

Cherokee console parts are at Morris 4x4 Center

I know Velcro and gorilla glue are practically free fixes, but I like to have my Jeep looking good. I recently replaced my console latch and those two rubber pads (which broke shortly after the latch because of the side to side movement of the lid) and got my parts from Morris 4x4 Center. It's not the cheapest fix, but they have the right parts and it'll look stock when you're done. http://www.jeep4x4center.com/jeep-co...herokee-xj.htm

i think i may be thinking of something else. What I'm talking about it the little plastic latch that you press to pull up the armrest. If you use the super gorilla glue on it, then it looks exactly as it did before and works perfectly
