CEL - evap system leak - bad gas cap?

OK guys, I've had a cel on for a while now and the code says I have a large leak in the evap system. Most references I have consulted say the first thing to check is your gas cap. Then, you can start checking your vent hoses and such for leaks. Last resort would be a smoke test to find the leak.

My question: Anyone else have this happen and had a new gas cap fix their problem? Just wondering if I should even bother with a new one. I do know some aftermarket caps don't fit as well and can cause a leak also.

If a new fuel cap won't fix the problem...save yourself the headache and pay the 39.99 to have the EVAP system smoke tested for leaks...

I have that same problem I have both small and large evap leak. I tryed the new gas cap and it doesn't work so I am going to have it smoke tested or put on a new EGR valve. Let me know if you figure out the problem this light is pissing me off.
