You can use the mounting holes for the sun visor clips or the overhead console clips that I think all XJs have whether or not they got the console. I am pretty sure the older ones have the overhead console mounts already welded in. Not sure about the post '96 models.

Do you hear banjos?
I have done this and I have an 87. I'm 6'5" and did not need the visors and my headliner was sagging. I pulled it all out and my CB mounted right where the visor clip assy screwed in. With a little thought you could figure out a way to get the visor clips back in if you need them. Good luck!!

Yes, like they said, make a flat bracket with 4 holes in it. The 2 outer holes go where the visor clips are and the 2 inner holes are used to mount the CB bracket to.

See I knew the visor clips were up there but didn't know if all years had them. Just knew about the old stuff like mine.

lol It was only one idea from multiple people.
Are you aware that the roof is double between the visors. As long as you use screws no longer than a half inch there wouldn't be anything wrong with mounting it straight the roof. Maybe there is another reason...

If he uses the visor clip mount it will extend the cb down enough that if he has a top speaker it won't be muffled by the roof.

yep just went to aco/ace /true value and picked up a 1inch wide 4foot peice of aluminum flat stock. Cut to outer width of visor clip brackets. drilled holes so it fit behind the visor brackets using the visor bracket bolts to hold it up. also drilled centering holes for the cb bracket, bolted the bracket in place on the flat stock and then reinstalled the visor brackets and aluminum cross brace. attached the cb ran the wiring. works like a charm.
