CB & antenna mounting locations
Hey gang. A guy in my local club gave me a free CB last night at our meet and greet. Just looking for ideas of how/where to mount the unit inside the XJ, and also a good mounting location for the antenna. Planning on a 3 ft. FireStik antenna. I found this mounting bracket that seems pretty well thought out and designed just for the XJ: http://motionoffroad.com/catalog/ind...b64c05525531ba
What do you guys think? And I'd like to see some pics of where you have your unit and antenna mounted so I can get some ideas.
TIA.

You already have my antenna suggestions but my CB is mounted to the right side of my console. Doesn't seem to be in the way of the passenger and is easily visible by the driver.

That is a pretty common mounting place for the antenna. As long as you dont place to closely with trees and big rocks it should be fine..
As far as where to mount the CB.. (I am contemplating this as well).. you could mount it below the column, to the ashtray area, either side of the "hump", or between the sun visors..
I am leaning to either between the visors or to the ashtray area.. I should like it more mounted betweent he visors, but dont think I would like the mic cord danging around and I dont want to have to plug and unplug the mic all the time.

Here in SA we use the 27/29Mhz radio. The one I have mounted is a pretty common one and works quite well, for power I have used a 12volt plug and I just plug it into the power outlet when it is in use on trails.
It was quite a tough decision on where to mount the antenna, but I found this a pretty good spot. I removed some of the plastic trim covering the boot pillar and it was easy enough to feed the antenna cable down the inside of the pillar and then out a fairly large opening at the bottom of the pillar at the boot floor level, from there it was easy enough to route under the trimming all along the side and up under the passenger footwell by the glove box to the unit.
Offcourse mine is a rhd so everything would be opposite to yours

I mounted mine on the passenger side of the hump. I have the factory overhead unit, and my CB is rather big. Fits well and doesn't get in the way of my wife. For the antena, I use a magnet mount on the roof off to one side.
Most this because the whole things was free...

My problem with the roof mount is most of the trails around here are in the woods. I've used a magnet mount on the hood when I've borrowed my buddy's a few times, and it gets knocked off all the time because it sticks up just slightly higher than the roof. So one ON the roof would be getting knocked off every few feet.
I'd prefer it not stick up too far past the roof, so I'm thinking a 3' antenna MAX and mounted to either the tail light location like that link I posted, or mounted parallel to the radio antenna on the driver's side front fender.
As for the CB location, I found this link with several different mounting ideas. http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/...r/CB_Radio.htm I'd like to put it between the visors like prerunner said, but I know I'd get frustrated with the mic cable hanging down all the time. I thought about just putting it pn top of the center of the dash but I need to figure out how to mount it securely through the rubbery crap that the dash is made out of.
And does anyone know where you can buy the little plastic tab that holds your mic? I'd like to mount it somewhere near the steering wheel so I can grab it quickly and easily, but I can't seem to be able to find a bracket for it.

Velcro.. get some wide strips and run one down each side of the CB.. I bet it would hold it even if you rolled..

OK so I'm def. getting a FireStik and some sort of rear quarter mount. Still debating on the interior location.
And what about where to hang the mic? And what to hang it on? I can't find a hanger bracket anywhere.

I have both the kind that screw on to the side of the CB and a mag mount.

I had the magnetic roof mount for awhile and well, it got ripped off and cut the cable. I just ordered the front fender mount and a 3' firestick..well see how that works out.
