Default 3 catalytic converters?

HELP!! On my 2001 xj, I have the 2 cats right behind the manifold. Is there another cat right before the muffler? Or is that a resonator? I've heard both and I want to know the right answer. Thanks.

There's three cats. Two on the exhaust manifold and one behind the muffler

You have the dual cats off the exhaust manifolds. It is one pipe though. Then a rear one before the muffler. I have seen it referred to as a resonator also but is called a cat in any auto parts store computer. Thing is there is no O2 sensor after it, at least in my CA emissions '00, so I kinda get why some people refer to it as a resonator.

Which one does most of the noise dampening? Not for illegal reasons...

Just what was it about that simple question that called for a big fat, "HELP!"?

Do you operate in panic mode over nothing all the time?
