Default carrying spare tyre on roof

Are their any safety or other issues with (occasionally) relocating the spare tyre from inside cabin directly onto on the roof, secured using the stock roof racks with 4 x poly tie down straps (about 1" wide X 1/16" thick, with a one way metal clamp)

The only thing I can think of is in a violent collision it could become a missile. It should be bolted down to something.

If you could find one Jeep had a factory roof tire carrier. Guessing it would not be usable with some of the bigger tires you guys run but not really sure. Never seen one up close and personal.

Thats what I want to avoid.

I think the Jeep OEM roofracks are rated to ~60kg = (~150lb) ?

Presumably that rating is to support its rated load (in the event of an accident) ?

If I base my calcs on 10G being force in a serious crash, and a spare weighing ~60lb, that is well within the braking strain of the ratchet straps

Sorry for the basic nature of the questions

please skool me

Someone, IDK who, makes a tire roof rack that bolts to the OEM rails and swings over one side to access it. I just recently saw a picture of it on this forum. It was on a thread by someone who wanted a swing-away mount for the rear bumper.

buy extra stock cross bars and add them to yours to spread the load then use 2 ratchet straps to hold it down
