Carpet/interior

What is the best place to start inside to take outthe interior to take the carpet out?

My seats are already out and center console will be next but I do need advice on how to take the center console out too.

Thanks

I just started removing the shifted knob, then started looking for bolts.

How do you take the push button shifter off an automatic?

JeepingDan 05-10-2011 04:16 PM

Center console, Seat beats, lower plastic trim, seats, Gas pedal, Then carpet.
Hard part is belt on floor if rusted and seized.

Oh, my bad. Im manual, and really you shouldn't have to remove the knob.

Also, the console os mounted above the seatbelts (female end), so you should be able to remove the console before the belts.

Just pop the selector panel up and remove screws from center console.
And the you will be able to remove console with out removing the shifter.
Shifter in 1-2 and e-brake up and ashtray removed.
I've done this a 100 times lol

Well I have the passenger seat out and one bolt broke so I will have to tap and drill that. I'm pretty sure the driver side ones are going to all break. Anyone know what size tap to use?

Mine has done the same. I just drilled them out and did a nut and bolt deal.

How did you do that I thought the bolts were inside a frame rail type thing? (I haven't looked at mine yet)

Gee oh Dee 05-11-2011 09:15 AM

I plan in just unleashing hell's fury on them til they just twist in half. After that I'm gonna drill out what's left of the bolt with a drill bit slightly bigger than the original bolt. New, STAINLESS STEEL hardware will be used, so instead of studs attached to the subframe you have bolts running through.

Alright I tore out the interior to see how bad the rust damage is: this is going to suck!!

You have more floor than I did. Its actually easier than you'd think.

Harbor freight's 10$ 4" angle grinder with some good cutoff wheels, a wire wheel, and a grinding disc.
