car can't start, help!!
My XJ ran beautifully until this afternoon, all of sudden, I can't start the car. Battery is fine. When key is turned, no cranking at all and all electronics go to dark. The dashboard will come back after 5-10 min.
What could be wrong? I am thinking of PCM so far for all the symptoms.

Sometimes I have to put it into Neutral in order to start my vehicule, its the neutral safety switch. And if that doesnt help its most likely your starter. Give it a lil knock with a hammer, Ive seen that work before

i had the same problem it my 90 it turned out to be my switch i could turn it to the on position and then use a screwdriver and it would turn right on. so i installed a push button start and it works fine now. before when it was actin up everytime i tried to start it the gauges would do the same thing and all. sometimes i could hold it and it would eventually start after the push button no more problems

i'm thinkin your battery cables are corroded inside the rubber somewhere.
i'd start by replacing them with new ones. get some new terminal clamps too.
and use plenty of di-electric grease on your connections too.

the loss of guages and dome light is normal when the key is in the start position. the ignition switch will divert all power accept for exterior lights to the start and ignition systems. i would look for something in the start circuit, switch, neutral switch, cables, relay, or the starter its self. put the key in the run position and jump the starter first, fast easy way to rule that out.
