Default Can't get wiring harness plug going to tank apart.

I'm sure there is an obvious answer for this but I'm not sure what to do and this is driving me nuts. I'm tying to get my wiring harness plug going to my fuel tank apart so I can drop the tank. I slid the red clip to the side and I still can't pull it apart. It seems to be gummed up with mud. Can I squirt something inside to free it up? Any suggestions?
