Can't get my NSS out!
Hey ya'll,
I haven't seen any decent solutions yet to removing the NSS. This is in my 99 XJ Sport also.
I've put it in Neutral,
Removed the top smaller bolt
Removed the bottom bolt and flange
The thing wont budge! Any advice on getting this thing to move?
Thanks again guys,
JJ

Mine was just as hard and thought it never would come out. There a tight fit. Use a screw driver to pry it out. Just be care full and take ur time. It will just come out slowly. U will have to force it back on when ur done. It was well worth it.

You can gently pry against the back on the switch but be careful not to force it or you can crack the housing. Use lots of penetrating oil on shaft running through the switch and work the switch back and forth on the shaft, (not rotating) and it will eventually break free.
If you do end up braking it you can get a replacement fairly cheaply from here:

Yep, the actuator shaft (the rectangle post that sticks out of the pinch bolt) binds to the pinch bolt, most likely due to the difference in metals. A little penetrating oil on the shaft will help but it's ultimately about finesse and patience. After you get the NSS housing away from the bell-housing, rock it from side to side while prying (gently) from behind with a big flathead... it will eventually work its way off the shaft.

I had a lot of success by using the penetrating oil, then putting the large nut back on (just a couple of threads) and pulling on the nut with my hand. When I tried to pry it, it felt like it was binding on the shifter shaft.
