I'll take my Cherokee off road for the first time ever next weekend, [Only had it 8 months], but I don't have a winch.
Has anyone ever pulled a Jeep out of the mud with one of these, is it strong enough?
It's rated for 8000 pounds.

i used a highlift jack to get myself out once, i was axled out front and rear and it worked..... took me about an hour to move it only 8" out far enough to drive out but still, it got the job done

We have a utility vehicle that I have gotten buried in mud and snow many times. I had to use our come along many times aswell...

It will work fine if you are willing to crank it back and forth until your Jeep is unstuck. But hey, they are a lot cheaper than a winch...

Sure it will. I used one for years. But you will want the two ton if you haven't bought one already. You will also need a 20' length of chain and a good strap also.

i personally asked the same question about 6 months ago. and everyone told me to get a hi lift jack. it was the best 70 bucks i ever spent. i have used a come along to get out and it works but its scary and really really slow. if i were you i would go get a 48 inch hi lift and alot of 3/8 chain and some straps and you should be fine. thats what i use and i get in pretty deep in creaks and holes on my buddies old christmass farm. but thats just my 2 cents

Try to find a cheap winch on Craigslist. Luckily when i bought mine the guy had a nice aftermarket bumper with a winch mount and an 8000 lb winch. Doesn't have to be warn or anything just something to get you unstuck.

Yea a winch or a jack would be better, I don't wanna crank that come along till my arm falls off.

Yep; Works great
I always carry one and a High Lift jack and a couple of Tow ropes.
I have never had a Winch, I have used my Come Along many times.

No reason it won't work but mucho elbow grease is involved so be prepared for that.
