well, i just bought my first car/xj yesterday. A 2000 cherokee w/54k on the odometer bone stock ended up paying about 7k with taxes and tags.
I want to get started on it as soon as i can, but i'm not sure what i want to do first, i was thinking about a lift and some tires, it seems like a good starting point. Anyone know any good deals for low priced but decent quality lifts?

Does your profile say you are 15?..Oh my!..That`s young to have a Jeep..When I was 15 I was still riding my bike The more "lift" you want the more it will cost as more and more things have to be upgraded..I think 3" might be the most without starting to change a whole lot...Guys?

The first thing you need to figure out is what do you wanna do with your xj. That will kinda help you figure out how much lift you need and what lift set up you need.

well i live on the eastern shore of MD we dont really get much snow and not alot of rocks. So it would mostly be used for mud, swamp, theres a little sand pit near my house, and just some back country trails

For $1000 lift and tires, you should plan on 3-3.5" max. Tires alone are going to be close to have the budget. To do it right, above 4" is going to cost $2000-2500 or more, when all said and done. You can do the Junkyard route and save alot of money. But there are just some parts that you won't or shouldn't get at the JY.

once you start getting much over 3 inches you need an sye on your transfer case and a few other things to make everything work properly.but you can go higher.

IMO, start with good set of 235 all terrain tires, recovery points front and rear, and some underbody protection. Then learn how to drive first and improve the jeep as your skills improve. A big jeep dosn't make you a good wheeler.....seat time does, as your learn to drive you will see what you need to upgrade your jeep to make it do what you want. By that time you can set enough money aside to get a good lift and an even bigger set of tires.

learn how to wheel your jeep before you lift it and throw big tires on it, just my .02$. you can have all the lift in the world, but it might not help you at all if you don't have much experience wheeling. thats the way i did it.
