I don't know about doing it as a doubler (probably need a short driveshaft to do it, and fab up a crossmember mount for it,) but it should bolt right to the transmission as long as the input spline count matches. The NP231C (which you should have in the S-series) has a 1.25" wide chain vice the 1" wide found in the NP231 and NP231J (so, if it's an actual NP231C, it's an upgrade to replace it.)

Yes the NP231 was used in Chevy's. But it will not bolt up to a Jeep.
Chevy uses 5 bolts, and our jeeps use 6.

Now the doubler thing, google up np231/300 doubler or something and you can find a build of one. I pasted a link to it on a similar thread last week.

Really? Interesting. I'd been under the impression that all of the NP/NVG cases used the six-bolt round pattern from the D300...

Are you sure you're not thinking of the adapter housing/tailcone on the 4L60? The early ones used five screws, and the later ones six (or do I have that reversed at the moment? I'd have to check my notes...)
