1999 - 2001 Cherokee XJ, and maybe Wrangler.

The NVH (block strengthened for "Noise, Vibration and Harshness" - Uses long main bolts and stud girdle. .

The 53010449 block casting number goes back to 1996. In 1999 it changed to 53010449AA. The '99-'01 "AA" uses a camshaft thrust plate, previous years used a spring and button set up, as well as other changes.

Edit: I get a kick out of people on the Jeep forums that say the Chrysler part number "revision letters" don't mean nothin. The Chrysler part numbers are drawing numbers/specifications for a product. The suffix letters are drawing/spec changes. Some changes may be minor but others are significant, such as the "AA" change letters for this block casting number. Another case in point is the AW4 configured for 4X4. The 1997 part number is 52104210. The 1998 part number is 52104210AB. Don't mean nothin right. Wrong. The '98 AW4 introduced the Input Speed Sensor and a different output speed sensor, as well as doing away with the provision for a temp gauge probe - all of which required different machining of the transmission, and changes to the wiring harness and TCM. Revision letters do mean somethin.

If it has a distributor it's a '99 vintage.

I was afraid that was what it was when I got there but bought it anyway. The engine was complete an alleged 96,000mi. original.

Any suggestions on a way to salvage the block possibly? Had hoped to use it for a spare for my 99 current engine has over 225,000 but still runs good.

Weld in a stud for appearance sake then go to the full Brown Dog brackets.

If he had the piece broken off cold metal stitching could fix it.

No such good luck of him having the broken piece I asked Andrew, thought about that. He was present the day the guy pulled it and the dumb azz stuck a bolt and chain on it to pull the engine, either wrong bolt or just a few threads screwed in.

freegdr I had the Brown Dog mounts on my XJ and didn't like them because of the vibs they caused in the mirrors and such and removed them, went back to a stock unit. But may have to do so will see in order to use the engine.

On edit the $339 may be my very best option for the super flex kit. I stupidly did not follow the link fully, with that many mounting points an excellent option even with a few vibs.

Thanks to all who replied and as always for today and tomorrow!

I have sent this photo to a good friend a longtime welder who owns a machine and fab shop to see if he might have an answer on it. Wonder if it could be built back up, drilled and then tapped or heli-coiled don't know but if it can be done he will know.
