Default Camshaft thrustpin and spring?

I am rebuilding my 2000 XJ 4.0 engine and am now in the process of putting it all back together and after reading some info here and in my manual, I came across the description of a camshaft thrustpin and spring!? I don't think I remember the camshaft sprocket bolt having this! Did they have them on the 2000 models? I also noticed that upon installing the camshaft, the lobes don't exactly linup squarely under the lifter bores. Just exactly how is the camshaft stay in correct position in the block? It doesn't seem to have any thrust bearing or element to keep it from moving horizontally. Thanks for any help out there!
