So, recently when I turn my A/C on, there's this awful squealing noise. My fan only has two speeds right now, and I know I need to get a new blower motor resistor. The squealing only shows it's true self when the A/C is on high. Could it be the belt itself, or the A/C compressor? The belt would be an easy fix, but I don't know how to fix the compressor. Thanks!

Does it happen on acceleration or any other time the belt is loaded (like cranking the wheels so the power steering pump loads the belt)?


Mine was doing it only with the A/C on and the blower on high and if I cranked my wheels or hit the accelerator. Got a krikit II tension guage from NAPA and found out I was 40 Ft Lbs lower than spec. Tightened it and its not squealing.

Sorry, I totally forgot to mention that it does squeal louder when I accelerate. If it's the belt, I might as well just replace it

I just fixed this on my 98. Simply tighten your belt incrementally until your belt stops squealing. Tighten some, start jeep, check for squeal, repeat until no more squeal. Very easy fix.
