A/C issues
So my 2000XJ blows decently cold air even on days like today (90+ and muggy)....until I turn it off and back on again. If I stop for gas or to run in a store and start on my way again the A/C blows hot humid air (kind of feels like its coming from directly outside).
When I let the Jeep cool completely it blows cold again. I got home from work after driving with nice cold air the whole way home today, and decided to try something. I turned off the A/C and immediately turned it back on....hot air again. No engine temp issues, coolant is full, air blows cold as long as I dont turn it off and bak on so I am assuming the system is charged. Assuming this makes sense, anyone have any ideas? |
What do you mean: when you turn it back on, it blows hot air and keeps doing that or does it eventually turn cold again?

OP,
Stop doing whatever it is you're doing and the problem will go away. (Climate Control Panel knobinosys) |
It sounds to me like the a/c solenoid or the compressor clutch is not picking up when hot. You should be able to hear the solenoid pickup if it is operating properly. The a/c clutch can be seen engaging and disengaging. Good luck.

You just agree with everything here now, dont ye...;)
How about: what's the A/c solenoid actually? Or are we talking about the pressure cute out switches..? |
Hey Roler. The a/c solenoid (called a relay too) is found in the fuse/solenoid (relay) box under the hood. It should be labeled on the under side of the cover. When the a/c is turned on, you should be able to hear it click (turn on). When the solenoid turns on it supplies power to the a/c clutch which then pulls in and engages. You should be able to watch the clutch engage and disengage (spin and stop spinning). Good luck. Sorry if I caused confusion by calling it a solenoid instead of a relay.
