So attacking this Jeep XJ a little at a time. I've got a question about the A/C. It somewhat works, fan speed 1-3 doesn't work, but 4 does. Vent control no matter where I place the **** it just comes out of the window vent. Lastly the hot/cold **** it works I believe just needs recharged, I can hear it change as I move it from cold to hot or the other way around.

Any idea as to where to start? I was not to worried about this, but the lady friend keeps complaining!!

The fan problem is probably the resistor pack used to control fan speed. Fan settings 1-3 use resistors to drop the speed, 4 bypasses the resistors and applies full voltage. Sounds like you have some problems going on under the dash with the control flaps. (I haven't had to go there on mine so am not very familiar with that. Hopefully someone who has worked on that part of the HVAC system will chime in.)

Your AC may actually be working fine but the blend door could be ducting in air from the heater core. You really need a gauge set to diagnose whether the underlying AC system is working properly.

You may have a HVAC/Cruise Control vacuum tubing leak in your engine bay.
