Default A/C Compressor Cycles on/off, no cold air

as the title read, my compressor, in my 01 Cherokee, cycles on and off every few second yet it blows warm air.

I know this is a sign of a leak/low refrigerant. I bought a recharge it and it full yet still no cold air.

could a small leak still cause this?

any ideas would be helpful

any pressure?. mine did that a month ago. i added some till it stayed on. its cold now. if no pressure you have other trbl.

Sounds like its either on defrost or still a little low on freon. Or its leaking out just as fast as its going in.

What are the pressures in the system when the compressor is running? (You need a full gauge set to see the high and low side readings, not just the cheap low pressure dial built into the recharge bottles sold at places like Autozone.)

you mean it's stuck on defrost? If so how can I trouble shoot that?

It varies depending on ambient temperature and humidity, and the specific AC system. Here's the pressure and diagnosis chart from the 1999 XJ service manual:
