Buying a new cylinder head, best/cheapest place?
So I need a new cylinder head for my 1996 Cherokee XJ 4.0L and was wondering where the best/cheapest place is to get a new one? I havn't found any places in Canada yet, I'd prefer a place in Buffalo or Ontario so I can pick it up.
All my local engine shops want at least $225 for a valve job, plus another $100+ for magnaflux and resurfacing.
Any ideas?
Update:
Ended up bringing it to a local engine shop.
$524 total for magnaflux, valve job, and resurface.

My best bet would be to pay the $325 to get your head re done because i don't think you will find a new head for less than that and if you get a used head you will probably need to have it fluxed and surfaced anyways.

Agreed, that's not that bad of a price at all. I would hope if I ever need to do it I'll find prices like that.

Damm I think I paid like 60 to get my head vac, fluxed, pressure tested and surfaced. Then paid another 40 for a jy head. I'd go that route plus it's about half the cost too.
But then again 325 for a rebuild head is not bad either.

I must agree $325 isn't bad for a rebuilt head if he uses new valves it's a buy for sure. If you know where a head has came from and its history means a lot, the same for an engine. If they were ever overheated, ran out of oil, etc. or at least it does to me as these items can have an effect over time on a rebuilt one.
