Busted aux fan blade repair?
Hey all,
I recently took a small chip off the electric fan blade while trying to reinstall it. Not an actual blade, but a part of the "circle" it is in. The jeep now vibrates/shakes whenever the fan kicks on. Its a real bother, and I've read that the vibration is enough to ruin water pump bearings? Either way, I don't like it and I'm wondering if any of you have attempted to repair a chipped fan with glue or whatnot. It seems like the fan flexes under rotation so I'm hesitant to do so, but I'm not willing to shell out $60 and wait for it to ship (possibly even 90+ at a brick and mortar). Any guidance is appreciated! btw, the Jeep just hit 154k |
You should be able to get one pretty inexpensively at a junkyard.

replace it! before it comes apart and takes the radiator with.

Thank you for the feedback! I forgot to mention that the closest boneyards are 30+ miles away, and I'm taking the risk of them not having the part, you know? I ended up purchasing a TYC fan off of fleabay and I'll let update as I install it!

Exactly the same thing happened to me, and whenever the fan kicked in, usually after a hot start, it made a godawful racket, and the whole engine sounded like it was shaking I don't believe there is any easy reliable permanent repair. I shelled out $75 for a new one and didnt look back. Pay the money and be done with it.

And I'm having a hard time fathoming how an electric fan, out of balance and mounted near the radiator, can affect the water pump bearings.............. |
X2 on the bearings, but I have see electric fans come apart, and destroy the radiator core.
Side note. Had a lower alt fan on a 7.3 come apart a couple of days ago. Fan broke..piece of fan flew off and broke the inline Trans filter..preceded to pump out all the Trans fluid on the freeway.but lucky no fire! |
If it's a E' fan-unplug it.I think it's cold enought outside that you will be fine.
