I have the BWs and can say they are quite strong. I have bounced them off trees at -40* F all the way up to 90+* F with no ill effects to the BW itself. Just bent the hell out of my fender. I abuse them as much as possible. They are scratched up but no cracks or breaks. Had them on for ~ 4 yrs now.

I find this ^ very hard believe. They are notorious for cracking and ripping off. There are 3 xj's in PNW that I cant think of that have had them. Went on trail and at least 3 of the 4 cracked or ripped off the rig. Unless your rigs a mall crawler / pavement princess theres no way I would or have another person I know own a set of these. There are by far much better options out there! Search NAXJA and see the horror story of these things cracking and ripping off rigs. This is coming from a past owner on them......... Total waste of my $$

as much as I hate Rusty's they do make a very durable flare. That being said I would just cut and trim the stock flares. If you rig really gets wheeled rustys and BW are not a viable option. They all will crack and be ripped off overtime.

Somebody must have bought some cheezy knockoffs. I have seen some that look almost like bushwackers but the texture was different. They didnt have a rough feel to them. UNLESS they redesigned them. Mine are only about 5 months old. I have hit my bushwackers on several trees and no rips or cracks yet. I hit a tree one time and it almost tore the fender off, and it didnt damage the flare except scratch it up..

if you dont wheel your xj and just want it to look good/dd/pavement princess then go buy some.
also to answer your question. if i remember correct there is more then enough room to clear 33's on 4.5" lift. I have 35's on a 4.5-5" lift and never had an issue besides them ripping off and cracking.
