Bumper Interchangability by Year?

I have a '92. I damaged the bumper with a dumb idea. Does anyone know if newer bumpers will be compatible? I want to get one from a JY and for reasons there is no point to explain, it is not really feasible to bring the XJ to the JY. Also I'd rather not take off a bunch just to find one that works.

I know there are differences. Mine has a Torx bolt on the bottom, and on the front. Newer ones have them on the bottom and top. Also I think my older one has more room between the triangular frame bracket and the actual bumper. So there are differences, but I don't know if they are still interchangeable.

Thank you.

Great! Are the bumpers the *same* for those years, or just compatible

And do you know why later models are not compatible? Is the frame different?

Somebody on one of the other forums answered this question.

Just curious, what is your plan at this point? Are you just looking to replace the damaged bumper, and exploring other options besides flat towing?

Beside the junkyard, I would also check craigslist and facebook market. Sometimes you'll see people parting out Cherokees and can get an oem bumper cheap. Every once in a while you'll see someone getting rid of an aftermarket or custom bumper.

Well if I can't flat tow then I have to sell one vehicle or the other. Since I have a problem with the Jeep that I can't figure out, maybe I have to sell the jeep? I don't know.

I am still considering making another attempt to modify the bumper but this time I'll take it to a welding shop and make sure it's done right.

Do you have any suggestions?

To fix the bumper, I think I can just force it all together for regular use.
