budget lift--donor vehicle ideas
so i am gonna bugdet lift my xj until i can afford an actual kit. but i might just leave it cuz i can fine tune it and it'll be custom this way. so i need donor vehicle ideas. i know that everyone is snatching up grand cherokee coils and dakota leafs really fast. so what about a ford ranger, would there leafs work?
im not in any hurry to get it finished, but parts go really quickly. and i live 30 miles from the nearest junkyard, prolly farther actually.
could i use stock dakota leaf springs with a 2 inch shackle?
all help is oh so greatly appreciated!!!

Depending on how much lift and flex you want or need. They do '63 Chevy leafs, and I see people do Explorer leafs also. Some are faced forward and some turned backwards. There lots of options on leafs.

You can't use the full leafs becuase they are longer from eye hole to eye hole from what i'm told and are only used to add more springs.
The dakota springs are used mainly due to them being the same width as the xj's

would stock dakota leafs fit? then they would bow down more giving more lift but then how would the ride be? and would they be flexy or really really stiff?

Bigomudders just did a Dakota bastard pack on his girlfriends XJ. We took the main leaf from the Dakota and cut the eyes off of it. The used it and the rest of the Dak pack under the XJ main stock leaf discarding the rest of the XJ pack. So basically the main leaf from the XJ and the complete leaf pack from the Dak with the eyes removed. This resulted in 5 inches of lift in the rear of her 91. Now throw in F150 coils in the front and you should get 4-5 inches.

or you could use a set of econoline van springs. added 5.5 to my buddies ranger this weekend and they were 20 bucks cheaper then f150's... no idea why but you might have the same luck
