1996 and earlier the hatch is fiberglass. 1997+ is steel. The locations for lift-struts on both chassis and hatch are different. 1996- location for struts will not support the steel hatch. Am not sure about the gasket mating surface, if it will fully seal or not.

Awesome! Thanks. I guess I'll just get mine fixed. The license plate bolts got stuck on the plastic tabs and instead of trying to fix it the previous owner simply drilled a bunch of holes till the left side of the hatch till it fit and drilled holes for the lights as well. Which all of them will leak water into the interior.

Default Chrysler 8.25 Open to LSD Swap

Hey yall. I gotta 1997 XJ Sport 5 speed with a Chrysler 8.25 29 spline open diff. I"m 100% sure mine is open because I just changed the differential fluid. I know some 8.25 came with a LSD, and I'd like to swap a LSD into mine that way I can have some form of a locker while not running into any issues on the street.

What cars/models would I find the LSD in? Id like to pull one from a junk/scrap yard if possible because I'm a broke high school student...

EDIT: Would this work? https://www.summitracing.com/parts/s...MaAq4WEALw_wcB

Thanks,
Walker

Looks to be a 27 spline carrier you posted, but it's harder than just pulling the shafts, pulling the carrier out and putting the new one in. You have to set up the gears properly again with the correct pinion depth, bearing preloads and backlash. Takes a few special tools, a decent amount of time and needs to be done right. From what I know I believe you can only get one from a 97+ cherokee. Not sure what other vehicles had 29 spline 8.25. There may be some dodge trucks that had them too though.

Dodge Dakotas had them. Can't use the axleshafts though because they're 6 bolt, so keep that in mind. Not sure if the Durangos had 'em but they may have in the 98-03 variety.

The only way to avoid the gear setup expense would be to find one in a XJ that has the same gear ratio you currently have and just swap the whole axle.

Or to know how to set gears up and do it yourself.

The 2004-2009 Durangos came with the 8.25, but none of them were LSD.

Default KJ disc swap & 5spd crossmember?

I have a 99 XJ, has anyone had any experiences with the KJ rear disc brake swap or the 5spd crossmember swap to lower the t-case 3/4" on an auto with no loss of ground clearance?

Really? That's surprising. So did they not come LSD or did they use a different axle on the LSD models?

I haven't looked it up in a while, but I think that -- weirdly -- the 2WD 2nd gen Durangos had the 9.25, some of which were limited slip. As far as I know, all the 4WD had 8.25 open diffs.

Was it pretty much bolt in? Did youhave to grind the backing plates? What did you do for proportioning valve?
