Default Brown brunt tranny fluid?

I just purchased a 99' checked the trans fluid before buying thought it was red, it was a little dark out. The Jeep shifts good. I have done some research online some people say dont change it becase tranny will go and some say flush it. Just looking fo the right direction on this.

Don't flush it. Me personally I would drain it and put some fresh in but do not flush it. Flushing a tranny is only good if it is done from the beginning and at regular intervals.

What makes the tranny fluid turn brown, just not kept up on or is something making tranny overheat?

Could be never was changed. Could be burned but if it's shifting fine and you don't smell any burning I would lean towards 11 year old tranny fluid.
