Well went and picked up my 96 sport XJ today. Drove her from Cambridge to Brantford which is about 30 km drive and it felt great. Love the 4.0 l. Much better than the 2.5 L I had in my 91 YJ back in the day. Shifted great all the way home. I was back in the groove of standard shift after driving the 95 Maxima auto I am currently driving within 5 minutes. Didn't overheat, oil pressure was steady, heat works, radio works, the ride felt a little swervy but I am used to a luxury car ride now.
Here are some pics I took before I started tearing into her. I am removing all the lower plastics, and upholstery to lay down some bedliner sometime in the upcoming weeks.

I think my 750 bucks was well spent.

Body work and paint. The roof has a few cancer spots but it looks like surface mostly. I have at least one hole to fix in the floor, maybe more. It is a fairly small hole about the size of a quarter, but the metal surrounding it is fairly rusty so I will have to cut a fair bit out and rivet (yuck no welder) some sheet in. I will be painting it a flat green of some sort. I like Overland's jeep on here but I want to go maybe a few shades darker in the same color.
After that I need to replace the cat and muffler. I know a local guy who does custom exhaust. So he will put it on for cheap.
It might need brakes (the owner said it would) but I will check first to see if it actually does. And he said ball joints. I might do the balljoints myself if I can with my limited supply of tools.
After I will do a 4.5 inch JY lift and throw some 32's on it. It is a DD so I am not going to crazy with her. I just want to be able to get where I need to when I take the dogs out camping or for hikes. I also hated not having a 4 wheel in the winter.
BTW The removal of interior is moving along but I hit a snag with those stupid Torx seatbelt bolts. Wishing I had an air compressor right now... or some torches.

I have the torx socket it's just the fact that the bolt is rusted to crap at the bottom. It ended up slipping stripping the head of the bolt.
So I am waiting for my dad to bring the torches so I can heat it up and jam an allan key bit in with a hammer and spin it off. Hopefully that works.

if it is stripping you used the wrong size- that is the one thing you have to watch with them. Sometimes one will seem to fit, but the next size bigger is the one you need.
I've been wrenching on cars for over 15 years. I've rounded off a lot of nuts and bolts. I've stripped maybe 2 torx fasteners. YMMV.

I was using T-55 because 60 would not fit in at all, even if I were to use a hammer.

Oh and the first person to say it is a poor tradesman who blames his tools can kiss my ***!

When dealing with torx bolts I take a hammer and tap the torx socket firmly into bolt head seems to help from stripping bolt head.
