broken rear lower shock mount
as i was taking off my shocks i managed to snap the passenger side rear shock mount now im not sure really what to do could i weld a bolt to it and use that maybe?? any suggestions?

sure you can weld a bolt to it but it may or may not hold - at times like these I opt in for an upgrade :D RE and others sell weld on shock mounts and since you have access to a welder it would be a good time to replace that mount.
Here is a simple kit and not too expensive http://zoneoffroad.com/product-acc?ki=90&gr= You also get 3" of clearance with them |
Perfect time to add some much needed ground clearance. Cut the mounts off and remount so that the stud is even with the centerline of the axle tube.

cut off the threaded part and grind it flush then drill and tap for a bolt and washer

Hey, are those rear disks on a 35? If so where did you get the conversion. Sorry didn't meat to change what the tread was focused on.
|
No, those are are rear discs on a Dana44.
The brakes are off a mid 90's ZJ (D35). The swap cost me around $50 |
sorry dont mean to jack your tread but do you have a build tread on how you did it i want discs on my d44 i hate drums
|
if you raise your shock mount you will have to remeasure to make sure your currents shocks dont bottom out. seen it done numerous times and then their current shocks are to long.........

Tons of write-up's on the WWW about this swap.
http://www.google.com/#hl=en&source=...cfdbfb1e48170b Yes, but proper bumpstop length can eliminate this concern for some applications. Knowing the shock's compressed and extended lengths will help a lot. |
does anyone have a measurement of how far this moves the shock up? An inch? A few inches?
|
on my 8.8 it went up 3inches
|
i fixed the bottom shock mount and i put bar pin eliminators up top :gunsmilie:
