Default Broken Hoodlatch Cable

I have a 97 Jeep Cherokee se model and the solid metal latch mechnism broke on the drivers side with the hood closed

Lots of information on this site to fix this issue, and you should do a search to find different options. The above method will get it open, but it will be a lot of work. If you can get to the cable with a pair of vice grips you can pull it open that way. That's how I got mine open.

where did it break? most of the time it just breaks at the handle. if that's the case, just cut back some of the plastic housing and use a pair of good vise grips to grab the cable, and pull.
i've done this a few times...
