Broke my stud!

:brickwall:
I Got all set up to put a set of air shocks on my wifes 98 Cherokee and snapped the threads off the lower rear shock stud. Normally I would knock out the stud and press in a new one but this looks like the stud and spacer is factory welded on. Does anybody know of a replacement kit for this repair besides welding a new braket to the axle?

Either replace the bracket or try and cut the welds and press the stud out. Thats about all I know in regards to fixing that.

That is going to be the most stable mount (welded in) and it can be drilled out and a stud put in place but will not equal the strength of a welded stud. IMHO.

If you are new to CF please go to the introduction section and make a few friends.

The lower shock stud IS welded in. You may have to grind it out and either bolt another stud in or weld it in.
Either way, You are gonna get to know that corner of your Jeep real well.

You could try to drill and tap into the end and put a bolt in the end of the stud BUT that will weaken it severely.

Q? Why would you want to put air shocks on anyway?

I'm putting air shocks on to get a little more load stability. The 98 Laredo is my wife's go buggy mostly but we occasionally will take it upstate NY to our property filled with the family, dogs and weekend needs. With all the stuff and people it drags pretty low. She's got 240K+ on her (The cherokee not my wife) and could do with a new set of springs as well.
