break the bugger?

ok. stripped lug nut. no way to get it out. and im going to just break the studd... what is the best way to do that with hand tools. torch. things i might have.. haha. and how do u replace it.. i know u can hit them out with a hammer.. can u hit them in the same way?

if you use a torch you might want to find a replacement wheel, but you may be stuck in that situation anyways. to put a new one in, you have to pull it in w/ a lug nut, or thats how ive seen it done.

how much space do you have to move the wheel around on the hub?

dyte2004 06-07-2010 02:28 AM

just drill it out

spahr69 06-07-2010 10:37 AM

how do i go about drilling it out? also. what do you mean by move around the wheel?

BLACKSPORT 06-07-2010 11:11 AM

x2 on drilling. I did this as well because those caps suck! lol but just drill as deep as the nut and tap it til it falls. I think 7/16 was the size i used. Also if the inner piece is still somewhat okay? try using an 18mm bc that is what size it is w/o the cap on

Use an air impact wrench to bust the stud, or a long cheater bar on a breaker bar. Hammer out the piece that in still in the flange, use an impact wrench with a spacer to pull the new stud through.

If it's a rear wheel with drum brakes, (happened to me) get Haynes or Chilton manual, pull the axle shaft, then use 4 1/2" grinder to grind the back of stud out... once you get the stud flange ground down, simply drive it out with a punch and a hammer... then CAREFULLY use new lug nut to pull new stud back in... worked for me, and didn't hurt any adjacent parts... if it's a front, you might have to just beat an old socket on the FUBAR'd lug nut, and hope for the best!
