Default brand new motor, crank but no start

I just put a brand new reman motor in my 01 cherokee. I have tried timing the engine about 8 times (later to find out that the pcm controls the timing) and I have also confirmed that I have 45 psi of fuel presure, I do have spark and I am at a complete loss. I have a brand new starter, battery, and camshaft sensor aswell. Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Cody

Check the plugs, wet= no ignition, Dry=no fuel. If you have ignition, then the injectors are not working.

I can tell you I had the same problem when I installed my reman.

The issues was that after I got the engine to tdc then installed the distributor it looked like the distributor was in the right position but I actually had to move it one notch past the indicator if you know what I mean.

Hard for me to explain because I do not know all of the technical jargon.

It would crank all day but not start so we moved the rotor just ahead of #1 and it fired right up.

Hope that helps, been a long day, lol.

How exactly did you set the cam sensor? Mine fired up just fine even with the cam sensor 180° out. But if you twist it from there it dies. My best results came from using a drill bit to poke in the cam sensor with the cap off to see what you are doing. I tried to time it with the cap on and failed every time.

This might help.

I am not sure what you mean by setting the cam sensor. The cam sensor locks into the distributor and can't be moved, it goes where the distributor goes?

Its a little different for the 00-01. Once you put the alignment pin in and set the engine to TDC, you can still drop the cam sensor / distributor like thing in at any direction. I pointed mine towards the back of the engine. Once it is in, you lock it down and pull the alignment pin out.

I placed a tooth pick in the holes and lined it up with the engine at TDC on #1. It should adjust accordingly from the pcm, correct?

Ya pcm should take care of it from there. Just for fun, I installed mine 180° out and it still fired up and ran fine. They arent very picky it seems.

Did you pop the cap off the cam sensor when you put the tooth pick in? If you left the cap on, its easy to put it in the wrong slot.

Have you tried squirting some starting fluid (or anything flammable) down the intake to see if it starts for a second like that?

Is there a chance the timing chain was installed incorrectly?
