Default brake question?

Hey everyone, I am new to the XJ scene(actually any Jeep). I just picked up an '89 Cherokee Limited for my wife. It has a very strange(to me) brake system. When you press on the pedal it sounds like a motor/pump is building up pressure. Is this a good system or can it be replaced with a normal vac booster/mc? Thanks

ahahahahaha man I hate to laugh but it's only cause I have that same xj with the same ABS and I've had such problems with it. I just replaced the pressure accumulator, ABS sensor, front L calaper and brake line and still has the same problem..... not to mention there was a recall done a month ago that replaced the ABS motor. Sometimes my pedal is soft, sometimes it pulls all over the road, sometimes the ABS motor runs for no reason. Needless to say if I could do the work myself to swap it I would have done it already. I have about 700 bucks wrapped up in this ABS in the last 2 months and there still not right.

So how can I get rid of this system? Can I just replace with a mc/vac booster from another XJ? Thanks for the input so far.
