Default Brake Pipe Coil

I am changing the rusted rear brake pipes that run along the top of my Dana 35 back axle ... only thing is the ones i am taking off are wrapped in a metal coil and i am not sure what to do as the replacement pipe is not wrapped in coil and will be a little loose in the clips ... do i need to get some coil to wrap it in or should i not bother ... what have others done? What is the purpose of the coil anyway?

You can see the coil in this picture

What you are referring to as 'pipe' is called hard line or tubing or brake line tubing.

The coil is irrelevant.

The coil is to protect the brake line from damage from objects that might be thrown up while driving off-road.

I think you'll find the coil only at the tight bends to keep the tubing from kinking when bending the tubing.

If to protect the line.........it would be over the entire line, not just portions.

I don't think you see on new trucks.......I have not.

I don't even think you can get it for new lines.

The coil he is referring to is brake line armor. Used to protect the brake line from rocks and debris that might damage or puncture the line.

OP you can get it here,http://www.eastwood.com/3-16-and-1-4...armor-3ft.html or search using your googler to find it, most parts stores should be able to get it, if they don't have it.

Normally used on rear axles, as it's exposed to the elements, unlike the rest of the hardline which is usually tucked under the rails.

As CCKen states below also used in the front wheel well...basically where you need extra protection from things getting kicked up...thanks for clarifying Ken.

The front brake lines in the wheel have stone guard as well.

Everyone is trying to make a church out of a S*** House.

Use the stone guards which ever way you want. Me...I bought the rear brake lines from the dealer (stone guards). Mopar. Or don't use stone guards.
