Brake Issue....Need Help!!!

okay so i replaced the brakes yesterday on my 97 XJ. all four.
i have what may be a bit of an issue. on the passenger side front, the two bolts behind the caliper.....i seemed to have stipped out the thread, not of the bolt but of the hole where that bolt threads into. what should i do, i can't get a bolt to stay in there.........does the bolt thread into the caliper of the 'knuckle' looking part behind it? any help would be great....thanks guys

post up a pic but it sounds like you are going to need to do a helitap or some thing similar

yeah a helicoil is the only thing i can think of. either that or take it to a shop and have it welded in and retaped. or get a longer bolt and nut but not sure if that will work

is this a huge safety issue to drive it somewhere to get it looked at?

I wouldn't drive it. Brakes are kinda important and the caliper has to stay put for them to work.

jon71203 Mar 31, 2009 05:48 PM

what is the actual part name of the knuckle that the mounting bolt threads into???

jon71203 Mar 31, 2009 06:11 PM

how would i go about inserting a helicoil? where do you get it? autozone?

jon71203 Mar 31, 2009 06:36 PM

what size helicoil to insert?

Not sure on an XJ, but my ZJ has a caliper mounting bracket. It's held onto the knuckle by two large
(18mm I think) bolts. Remove the bracket and have it repaired, or replace it.
