Bog on hillclimb after full day of wheelin'
96 xj 4.0 runs good for 6+ hours of wheelin'. Then at end of the day it starts struggling on hill climbs. Has fresh tune up, radiator, head, thermostat, fan clutch, battery. One problem I'm noticing but not sure if it's related is a premature overheat light and e fan kicking on. The light kicks on before the thermostat opens.

What you're describing could easily be an overheating issue so that may be a good place to start. It may be something as simple as air in the sytem. Seems like the fan should kick on before the overheat light. The radiator hoses could be weak and collapsing at rpm. It may also have been a fuel issue related to a dirty filter or a weak fuel pump.
