Default Blown engine

Hi Guys,

I wrote a while back about this but my engine is blown (think the head gasket is shot) basically it needs to be replaced. Two mechanics said that it isnt worht it and just to get a new car.

Here is the deal, I am the original owner, its got 150k on it. Do you all know where i could check prices on remanufactured engines for this jeep? I dont really want to get a JY engine, I would rather put some $$ into it if I am going to do it at all. I checked jasper and it was like 2200-2500 not installed. Which seems really expensive (more than i would pay i think).

Thanks,

David

Where are you located? You could also check local shops on the cost of a remanufactured engine. Sometimes local shops will have some in stock or can build you one fairly cheap.

i got a reman longblock on ebay for 600 bucks a while back.

its a little more of a gamble, but finding a wrecked low milage motor from a junkyard is also an option. check the color of the antifreeeze, look in the valve cover for sludge, and see if it turns over smoothly.

some junkyards will offer a warranty on thier engines, but it would suck to put the motor in and then find out that it has a knock and have to rip it and and swap it out for another engine from the yard

Most all parts stores can get reman engines. Autozone, Napa, Oreilly's, and Advanced around here all can get them. I went a different route simply because it saved me about $300 ...

Yeah if you buy a rebuilt engine they are waaaay overpriced (at least from what I have seen). I would do the rebuild yourself, or at least just replace the head gasket. You will save a lot of money. You could also have a local auto shop help you along with it, like help you do the hard and complicated stuff.

why dont you go to a you-pull-it and get the engine for 400 bucks, which is waranteed for a given amount of time?

if its just the head gasket, your looking at less than $100 in parts and a days labor and your back on the road,
