blower intermittent

on my 1992 Sport, my ac and heat blow and work perfectly. Then, next time I get in they don't work, no blower, no ac or heat. Tried sliding the dash selector back and forth and once or twice the system started working. Most of the time it either works or not, regardless of sliding selector back and forth. This car is new to me, so really can't say for certain yet but I think after sitting overnight the system usually works...will pay more attention to that. While I'm at it, noticed a thicker wire (red with white stripe I think) with round connector coming out of loom coming from starter solenoid..i think...coming out of a loom near front of coil anyway....round terminal is near coil not attached to anything...not hot with car off or running. Previous owner had recently had starter replaced which could have been when round terminal ( looks like a ground) may have been disconnected but wonder why anything would be touched at opposite end of where starter is wired. The round terminal is shiny, looks like it had recently been disconnected. any help appreciated. on a sidenote, my aux fan was not running when ac was running, found that I had hot from vehicle harness so tapped into black wire on fan side, ran a ground, and now aux fan comes on properly when getting hot and when ac is switched on if that makes a difference regarding my blower issue...

You'll have to post photographs of the wiring in question. I'd suspect either the blower motor or the resistor to the blower motor as the culprit. Those are more common than the wires melting. Those three things are the most frequent issues. A multimeter and visual inspection will solve that. It could be the switch, but that is rare.

Try searching for diagnosis videos on the internet. You might easily find one for this vehicle.
