Default Black mesh on evaporator core???

I'm replacing my evaporater core and need to find the mesh that is on the factory core. What's left of mine is stuck in my vents. Anyone have a lead on where to get this stuff or what it's actually called???

It is just a ghetto substitute for a cabin air filter. You can normally find it in hardware stores as a "universal" filter for window a/c units. I personally just throw it away and clean the evaporator once in a while.

You don't need it.

Yes. It's attached to the evaporator core in the heater box. It catches the condensation and forces it to drip into the drip pan. I found some at Lowes, but I think the foam is too dense and will restrict air flow. Going to try the dealer tomorrow.

I'm bumping this thread in case anyone else is looking for more details when they do a search. In the process of replacing my heater core, I found all that black mesh had disintegrated from my evaporator core (and was coming out my vents), so I managed to track some down from a vendor in California called FoamMart. Here's the link to the actual product I ordered: https://foammart.com/product/reticul...%2F4+X+12+X+38

It's black reticulated foam with 10 pores per inch (ppi), 1/4" thick. 10 ppi seems to be about the coarsest reticulated foam out there, and it looks like it's just about what Jeep used on the evap cores. Here's a pic from their website, but I'll post up a better one when it arrives for future reference. Thanks to Turbo X_J for the lead on the name for this stuff.

The foam arrived today, and it appears to be exactly what was on there originally. It's black reticulated foam, 10ppi, 1/4" thick. Here are some pics. I have extra, so if anyone is doing an HVAC overhaul and needs some, let me know. I have enough for at least 3 more evaporators.

All done!
